The port in brief

General information

Ushuaia´s Port is located at coordinates 54° 48″ 31′ 14′ . It has 650 meters long and 29 wide pier that is developed from West to East. The entrance of the pier is locate at just 100 meters from the city and is located at only 6 kilometers (or 15 minutes by taxi) from the airport. The berthing area consists of two “fronts”: southern front (770 m) and northern front (615 m).

Ushuaia is a city known to have extreme climate changes over short periods of time. Temperatures are generally cool year-round, with frequent wind and rain.

Suited for larger vessels

The Port of Ushuaia can accommodate vessels up to approximately 300 meters in length, particularly for cruise liners and cargo ships. The port’s draft varies from 7 to 11 meters across different berths, ensuring that larger vessels, especially during the high-traffic Antarctic season, can dock safely.

Time zone, working hours and local holidays

Ushuaia is using Argentina Standard Time (GMT -3). Commercial hours in Ushuaia are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 9pm in most cases. Supermarkets, however, operate from Monday to Sunday from 9am to 10pm.

Document tips

Tourists must hold a valid passport with entrance stamp. Crewmembers of small expedition ships should have Shore Pass (Argentinean Identity Card). However, Ushuaia is a small town, so, in the very unlikely event of being requested to show an ID, any photo ID will work.

Getting around

The port has strict regulations for authorized vehicles, particularly for taxis, which are not permitted to enter the dock area. However, taxis are available just outside the terminal, accepting US Dollars and, in some cases, credit cards. It is essential to confirm payment methods with the driver before starting a journey.

Clothing

You may be able to experience four different seasons in only one day! Therefore, it is always recommended to dress in layers, wear water resistant shoes and a windbreaker. And make sure to bring sun protection and your sunglasses.

Shopping

Paseo del Fuego Shopping, located at 1460 Perito Francisco Moreno St., is about a 4-minute drive or a 30-minute walk from the port and is open from 11:00 to 21:00. It offers free shuttle services for tourists, a luggage storage service for an additional fee, and more details can be found on their website, which is available in Spanish.
