Ushuaia is the capital of Tierra del Fuego Province in Argentina. With a population of nearly 80,000 and a location below the 54th parallel south latitude, Ushuaia claims the title of world’s southernmost city.
Ushuaia Port is located at 54°48′31″ S, 68°18′14″ W and features a 650-meter-long, 29-meter-wide pier oriented west to east. The pier entrance is situated just 100 meters from the city center and 6 kilometers (approximately 15 minutes by taxi) from Ushuaia International Airport. The berthing area is divided into two fronts: a southern front (770 meters) and a northern front (615 meters).
Ushuaia is a city known to have extreme climate changes over short periods of time. Temperatures are generally cool year-round, with frequent wind and rain.
The Port of Ushuaia can accommodate vessels up to approximately 300 meters in length, particularly for cruise liners and cargo ships. The port’s draft varies from 7 to 11 meters across different berths, ensuring that larger vessels, especially during the high-traffic Antarctic season, can dock safely.
Ushuaia is using Argentina Standard Time (GMT -3). Commercial hours in Ushuaia are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 9pm in most cases. Supermarkets, however, operate from Monday to Sunday from 9am to 10pm.
